UCEED started in 2015, prior to that Industrial design Centre (IDC) of IIT Mumbai used to conduct M.Des program only.
UCEED exam was started sensing demand for product design in undergraduates. The B.Des course offered in UCEED was meant to be a stepping stone to specialization for Industrial Design, Communication Design, Animation, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design. Therefore all these years what was checked was the mental ability of student towards problem solving.
But from 2020, drawing was introduced in UCEED, the purpose of introducing drawing indicates maturing of UCEED program, besides mental ability, visualization is needed for product designers.
Drawing has been introduced to provide this element as it is thinking and drawing. Definitely a interesting new pattern.
UCEED is conducted as a computer-based test. Candidates need to attempt Part A of the exam on the computer assigned to them at their allotted UCEED exam centre whereas Part B (drawing question) has to be attempted by candidates in the answer sheet provided to them at their test center.
